Why we exist
Millions of Kenyans run real businesses — the mama mboga restocking her stall before dawn, the boda rider growing his route, the fundi, the salon owner, the freelancer paid per gig. They move money every day, repay faithfully, and still get told “no” by lenders because they don’t have a payslip, collateral, or a paper file.
We think that’s backwards. The evidence of a good borrower is often found in how people actually earn and spend — their real money story. Kilele Pesa exists to give that story a fairer hearing.
What we're building
We're creating a digital credit experience that puts affordability, clarity and choice first. The aim is to help people understand their borrowing options while giving regulated lending partners better information for responsible decisions.
- Private by design. Our planned approach analyses relevant financial activity on a user's phone, so lenders can learn from useful summaries without needing raw personal messages.
- Borrow within your means. Affordability is a core design principle. We would rather suggest less than encourage unmanageable debt.
- Compare with confidence. Our marketplace vision is to help qualified borrowers review clear offers from licensed lending partners and decide for themselves.
- Understand the decision. We believe people deserve understandable reasons and access to human review when important decisions are automated.
Ngazi: a ladder toward stronger credit
Ngazi means “ladder” in Swahili. Our Credit Builder concept is designed to help people make measurable progress through positive financial habits and a clearer path toward creditworthiness. It is being developed as part of Kilele Pesa's wider mission.
Our name
Kilele is Swahili for summit. Every hustle is a climb. We believe useful financial tools should help people move higher, without leaving them trapped in debt.
